Nizip'in adı olarak Bilge UMUR, Türkiye'deki tarihi adlar kitabının 604. sayfasında şu bilgileri vermektedir.Mardin'in ilçe merkezi Nusaybin'in adı Asur kaynaklarında Nasibina, Nasibena, Nasipina olarak geçiyor. Diğer bir ilçe merkezi kasabamız olan Nizip'in adı da anlaşılıyor ki aynı kökten gelmektedir. Ernest Honigmann'ın (RE, Nisybin mad.) kaydettiğine göre; Arap coğrafyacısı Yakub'a göre Nizip, Fırat kıyısındaki Nisibin ar-rum diye anılıyor. Arrum (roma ülkesindeki) eklenmesi o kenti, İslam yurdundaki Nisibin (Helen ve Roma ağzında Nisibis, şimdi Nusaybin) kentinden ayır etmek içindir.. İ.Halil İMAMOĞULLARININ çıkardığı Geçmişten günümüze Nizip Kitabındaki Dr.Sadık AYDENİZ'in yazısından alınmıştır..
Bu durumda Nizip'in aslında bir Asur kenti oldugu sonucunu cıkarabilir miyiz? Belki de Nizip'teki Kilise'de aslında bir Asuri Kilisesidir. Sonradan baskaları tarafından kullanılmıştır. Ama aklıma takılan bir sey var neden acaba ikiz şehir yapmışlar Nusaybin ile Nizip'i. Yani Aslında iki Nizip var; biri Mardinde biri de burda (Antep'te). Aralarında nasıl bir ilişki var acaba? Enteresan degil mi?
