Gaziantep İli, Nizip ilçesi sınırlarında bulunan Rumkale, Yavuzeli İlçesi Kasaba köyünün güneyinde yer alır. Merziman Çayı ile Fırat Nehrinin kesiştiği bir noktada bulunan Rumkale; İl merkezine 67, Nizip ilçesine 30 km uzakta olup, gayet sağlam ve müstahkem bir kaledir. Günümüze kadar geçen tarihi süreç içerisinde çeşitli adlar ile anılır olmuştur. Asurlar döneminde Şitamrat Süryaniler Kal'a Rhomayta Ermeniler Hromklay Memlüklüler döneminde Kal At el-Müslimin adıyla anılan kale daha sonraları kale-i Zerrin (Altın Kale), günümüzde ise Rumkale adıyla anılmaktadır.
Rumkale 120x230 m. ebadında yaklaşık 3500 metre karelik bir alanı kaplamakta, doğayla uyumlu bir mimariye sahip olup büyük ve kesme taşlarla inşa edilmiş, bir tanesi doğuya yani Fırat nehirne diğeri ise Merziman Çayına açılan iki kapısı bulunmaktadır. Kuzey ve Doğuda bulunan surlarda dikdörtgen bir plana sahip yedi burç ve kuzeyde çok sayıda mazgal pencere yer alır. Günümüze kadar sağlam olarak gelebilmiş olan burçlar surlar kuzey kesimindedir. Kalenin güney kesimi ise 12. yy başlarında, 30 m. yüksekliğinde ve 20 m. genişiliğnde insan eli ile oyularak hendek haline getirilmiştir.
Rumkale'yi 1838 yılında ziyaret eden Mareşal Helmut Von Moltke, kayanın nerede bittiği, insan eserinin nerede başaladığını kestirmenin güç olduğunu ve kaleden bakınca Fırat nehrinin gümüş bir şerit gibi ayaklar altında uzanıp aktığını belirtmektedir. Rumkale, Birecik Barajının su tutmasıyla birlikte üç tarafı sularla çevrilmiş olup, bir yarım aa haline gelmiştir. Kalede bugün görünen mimarı eserler arasında, Osmanlılar döneminde yapılmış mescit, Aziz Nerses Kilisesi, Barşavma Manastırı, çok sayıda yapı kalıntısı, su sarnıçları ve bir helezonik su kuyusu vardır. Helezonik kuyu içerisinden basamaklarla Fırat Nehrinin seviyesine kadar inilebilmektedir. Kuyu yaklaşık 8 m. genişliğinde ve 75 m. derinliğinde olup, Fırat Nehriden su temin etmek için yapılmıştır. Kuyunun silindirik iç yüzünde kayanın oyulmasıyla helezonik bir merdiven meydana getirilmiştir.
Fırat nehri boyunca ele geçen çakmak taşından yapılmış aletler ve diğier kalıntılar, insanların Rumkale ve çevresinde yontma taş (Paleolitik) döneminden beri yerleştiğini kanıtlamaktadır. Bu dönemden sonraki iskan yerleri ise Fırat vadisinde Tunç çağından başlayıp Kalkolitik döneme kadar inen höyüklerle izlemekteyiz. Rumkale ve çevresiyle ilgili antik kaynaklardaki ilk bilgiye, Asur Kralı III. Salmanassar tarafından MÖ. 855'te zapt edilen "Şitamrat" yerleşimiyle ulaşmaktayız. Bu yerin Rumkale olduğu araştırmacılar tarafında ifade edilmektedir. Rumkale çevresi bölgedeki stratejik konumu sebeiyle Med, Pers, Helenistik ve Roma dönemlerinde iskan görmüştür.

- Gaziantep / Nizip'de bulunan Zeugma antik kentine geldikten sonra Kumla vapuru ile ulaşım sağlanabileceği gibi karayolu ile gitmekde mümkündür.

- İl Özel İdaresi Zeugma Antik Kenti ile [nz]Rumkale[/nz] arasında yapılacak olan turistik turlarda kullanılacak olan 180 kişi kapasiteli [nz]Kumla[/nz] adlı vapuru aldı. Bu vapurun [nz]Zeugma[/nz] Antik Kenti ile Rumkale arasında geziye başlamasıyla birlikte bölgede kültür turizmi canlılık kazandı.
